He wanted to tell her some stories that would improve her opinion of him. And yes, it would have been true that he was often very depressed and that's where his dark pictures came from. The stories in this book were written between November 1995 and April 1996 and show in a very amusing yet profound way how Wilhelm Busch would see our world today.
